Abstract

Abstract

Background and Objective: Health is considered one of the most influential factors affecting the welfare level of individuals in a society. This study aimed to compare the mental and physical health status of Singapore, recognized as the most successful country in this domain by the Legatum Institute, with that of Iran in order to examine strengths and weaknesses. Methods This research was conducted as a comparative study using a scoping review approach to investigate the mental and physical health status of the two selected countries, Singapore and Iran, across eight indicators categorized under two elements: mental health and physical health. Findings: The study findings indicated that, according to the Legatum Institute report, Singapore ranked higher than Iran in seven indicators (emotional health, depressive disorders, physical pain, health problems, infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, and blood pressure), and only in the suicide indicator did Iran rank better than Singapore. Conclusion Given the close interconnection between physical and mental health, as well as the declining trend of these two elements contrary to other health-related elements, evaluating the indicators of these two elements and comparing them with the best-performing country globally in terms of health status according to the Legatum Institute can guide sound and informed policymaking in these domains, which necessitates drawing upon the experiences of successful countries.
