<jats:p>The article presents the results of an empirical study on the metacognitive strategies of primary school students who experience difficulties in solving linguistic tasks while learning English. The dominant metacognitive strategies of the students were identified, as well as their correlations with the number of errors made when solving tasks. Recommendations for teachers aimed at optimizing the process of teaching English have been developed.</jats:p>
