Abstract

The appearance of the Jewish diaspora in Sudan occurred only at the end of the 19th century. It was associated with the gradual strengthening of colonial power, which attracted traders and owners of соmpanies and created generally favorable conditions for business and functioning of government institutions under the British control. Cotton growing, its export, as well as export of other agricultural raw materials were the most promising areas where Jewish money was invested. At the same time, members of the Jewish community served at various institutions that represented the colonial authorities. In Khartoum, where mostly Jewish families lived, sports societies, a club and a synagogue were established. The political figures representing Zionist circles began to arrive in Sudan in the 1930s, and their agitation among young people intensified. That led to gradual relocation of Jewish families from Sudan. Currently, there is no Jewish diaspora in Sudan.
