Abstract

<jats:p>The study is devoted to the analysis of the metacognitive resources involved in modeling text messages through projective-recursive technology in English language teaching. In the context of contemporary foreign language education, the development of students’ ability to consciously plan, construct, evaluate, and revise texts is becoming increasingly important. Effective language learning requires not only the acquisition of linguistic knowledge and communicative skills but also the development of metacognitive abilities that enable learners to understand and regulate their own cognitive and communicative processes. From this perspective, text creation is considered as a complex activity involving the interaction of linguistic, cognitive, communicative, reflective, and metacognitive mechanisms. The authors examine the essential dimensions of communicative discourse and consider the text as its fundamental structural and functional element. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between the organization of discourse and the cognitive processes involved in text production. The study emphasizes that the ability to construct coherent and meaningful texts in a foreign language depends on learners’ capacity to plan communicative intentions, organize ideas, select appropriate linguistic resources, monitor the development of an utterance, and evaluate the effectiveness of the resulting text The research explores the potential of cognitive-discursive and fractal approaches to text modeling within the framework of metacognitive activity in foreign language learning. Cognitive-discursive modeling makes it possible to consider the connection between thought processes, communicative intentions, linguistic structures, and contextual conditions, while fractal modeling emphasizes the recursive organization and repetition of structural patterns at different levels of text construction. Such approaches create opportunities for learners to perceive the text not as a static linguistic product but as a dynamic structure that can be planned, constructed, analyzed, transformed, and improved. A significant part of the study is devoted to the integrative model ILDA, which is considered as a tool for measuring the multimodal development of bilingual academic literacy among learners. The model makes it possible to take into account different modes of communication and the interaction of linguistic, cognitive, academic, and communicative resources in bilingual educational contexts. Its application provides a more comprehensive assessment of learners’ progress than approaches focused exclusively on grammatical accuracy or vocabulary acquisition. The authors demonstrate the effectiveness of the model for identifying changes in students’ ability to construct, interpret, and transform academic texts using several interconnected communicative and cognitive resources. Particular attention is given to the role of recursive mechanisms in the organization of thought-speech patterns. Recursion allows learners to repeatedly return to previously constructed elements, reconsider their communicative intentions, modify linguistic formulations, and refine the structure and content of a text. In bilingual communication, such mechanisms are especially important because learners may need to compare linguistic structures, reinterpret meanings, and adjust their expression according to the requirements of the target language and the communicative situation. Recursive processes also contribute to the organization of productive feedback, allowing students to use feedback not merely as an evaluation of the final product but as a resource for further development and revision. The study presents the experience of applying metacognitive schemes of different types in English language teaching for the development of text creation skills. These schemes can support learners at various stages of text production, including planning, organization of ideas, selection of linguistic means, drafting, monitoring, evaluation, and revision. Their systematic use helps students become more aware of the strategies they employ when producing foreign-language texts and enables them to identify difficulties and independently select appropriate methods for overcoming them. The authors substantiate the effectiveness of integrating metacognitive schemes into the logic of projective- recursive English language teaching. The projective component encourages learners to anticipate the structure, content, and communicative purpose of a future text, while the recursive component provides opportunities for repeated analysis, modification, feedback, and refinement. Their combination creates a cyclical learning process in which text production becomes an instrument not only for practicing language but also for developing higher-order cognitive and reflective skills. The results demonstrate that projective-recursive technology can contribute to the development of students’ text-creation abilities, bilingual academic literacy, metacognitive awareness, and capacity for self-regulated learning. The integration of cognitive-discursive and fractal modeling, recursive feedback mechanisms, and metacognitive schemes provides a comprehensive framework for organizing foreign language instruction. Such an approach allows learners to move from externally supported text production toward increasingly independent and conscious management of their communicative activities.</jats:p>
