Volunteering in healthcare: history and modernity

<jats:p>The historical perspective of the formation and development of medical volunteerism in Russia is a little-studied phenomenon of social mobilization and civic self-organization, which deserves comprehensive scientific analysis and reflection. This monographic study traces the key historical prerequisites that influenced the formation of volunteerism in the healthcare sector in pre-revolutionary Russia, identifies the features of the formation and institutionalization of the medical volunteerism model during the Soviet period, and analyzes the transformation of these practices in the post-Soviet reality and government support for civic initiatives. It is addressed to teachers, students and postgraduates of humanitarian and medical fields of study. It can be useful for organizers of volunteer activities, representatives of medical and public organizations involved in the development of volunteer initiatives in the field of healthcare.</jats:p>
