Ivan Kuratov: the life and work of the founder of Komi literature

<jats:p>The monograph offers a new concept of the biography and creative heritage of the Komi poet and grammarian. To a greater extent, the book is a generalization of the materials of curatorial research conducted from the 1930s to the present. At the same time, the author offers a new understanding of the entire creative heritage of I.A. Kuratov. In the author's concept, Kuratov's work was aimed at bringing the Komi language closer to the level of European languages. This means teaching this language to convey literary, philosophical, aesthetic, and generally cultural meanings that exist in European languages, but are absent in the language of the Zyryans, the language of hunters and peasants. Kuratov studies languages at the seminary, and after that he independently translates Russian and Western European poets into Komi, writes first-class poetry in Komi, and also develops an original grammar of the Komi language that would take into account all its linguistic nuances, but would not repeat the schemes of European grammars. In fact, Kuratov creates a new poetic language using the resources of the Zyryansk language, without involving linguistic borrowings. The book offers a new interpretation of Kuratov's poems. Against the background of the poet's work, his biography is consistently reviewed, new little-known facts of his life are included in the biographical plot. It is intended for literary critics, linguists, folklorists, historians, ethnographers, as well as for anyone interested in the creative legacy of I.A. Kuratov.</jats:p>
