An Anthropological Perspective on Youth Sport

<jats:p>A brief overview of youth participation in organised sports in the context of growth, maturation and behavioural development during childhood and especially adolescence is initially provided. Subsequently, the growth and maturity status, and maturity timing among youth in general are briefly considered, followed by an overview of the growth status (height and weight), maturity status (skeletal age), and maturity timing (ages at PHV and at menarche) of youth participants in several individual and team sports.</jats:p>
