How to Be a Radical Moderate

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>This chapter sums up the lessons of the book and underscores their importance and urgency, situating our current crisis of discourse in its political context. It explains that we all must take stances regarding what to encourage, tolerate, and forbid, and identifies the stance advocated in this book as a “Radical Moderate” stance. Moderation here is not “splitting-the-difference” centrism: the radical moderate stance is more a matter of the style of communication and interpretation than the content of political ideology. Nor is it bothsidesism: the radical moderate can be clear and candid about their convictions. This chapter includes “Ten Steps to Being a Radical Moderate,” to incorporate the lessons of the book.</jats:p>
