Conflict in the North Caucasus

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>By human nature, people fear those they do not understand. In these times, terrorists are some of the most feared groups, especially among Western policymakers and the public. Chechens, which are often one of the most feared terrorist and misunderstood people groups, took the West by surprise less than a decade ago and are now the biggest brand in the jihadi world. But despite the importance of this tiny region of Russia and the crucial role its inhabitants have played in major terrorist groups, very little is known about the people or the region. The main goal of this book is to explain how the natives of Chechnya ended up as leaders of international jihad and to shed light on the history of war in the North Caucasus, a war that, with time, has evolved into an international conflict.</jats:p>
