Abstract

Abstract
This book examines the challenges that adolescents and young adults on the autism spectrum face in achieving positive outcomes in employment, education, and quality of life compared to their neurotypical peers. It identifies common difficulties such as under-enrollment in college, unemployment, underemployment, and limited functional independence. The book presents STEPS (Stepped Transition to Employment and Postsecondary Education Success), a flexible counseling program designed to address the specific needs of the autistic community. Through structured worksheets and exercises, it develops essential skills in self-knowledge, self-determination, and self-regulation, including emotional management, self-care, and employability. Finally, the book equips individuals with practical strategies that strengthen preparedness for employment and independent adulthood.
