Abstract
Abstract
Postpartum migraine is a common disorder during the puerperium that can result in serious neurological complications. Migraine headache during the postpartum period is typically caused by rapid changes in hormones after childbirth. Migraines are one of the most prevalent causes of disability among women in their reproductive years, with sudden decreases in estrogen during the postpartum period acting as one of many migraine triggers. Migraines are unilateral headaches that are throbbing or pulsating in quality. Female migraine sufferers have reported worse migraine symptoms and longer duration than men who experience migraines. Common symptoms accompanying migraines include nausea, photophobia, and phonophobia. Prompt treatment of neurological conditions like migraines during the postpartum period is important because these conditions can cause serious disability. When providing care to these patients, it is essential to understand the pathophysiology of these conditions in order to provide empathetic treatment and care.
