<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>This book offers a comprehensive and thought-provoking analysis of EU gender equality law, providing an essential resource for academics, practitioners, and policymakers. It covers all relevant EU Treaty provisions, relevant directives, and main cases from the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) on gender equality. Five chapters address key substantive areas, those being core concepts such as gender, equality, and different forms of discrimination; equal pay; gender equality at work; pregnancy, maternity and work-life balance; and equal access to goods and services. Further chapters consider the general EU law foundations, the broader international human rights law context, and the effective enforcement of EU gender equality law in practice. The book analyses recent EU directives, placing particular emphasis on the Work-Life Balance Directive ((EU) 2019/1158) and Pay Transparency Directive ((EU) 2023/970). Grounded in feminist legal theory, the book examines EU gender equality law within its social and historical context and highlights the achievements and challenges of its implementation at national level. Thus, in addition to analysing the current state of the art in EU gender equality law, the book critically reflects on the role law at times plays in sustaining inequality and proposes ways in which EU law could better address structural gender inequality and enable transformative equality.</jats:p>
