<i>Neu Beginnen</i> and the Disappearance of Marc Rein

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>In April 1937, Marc Rein, the son of Rafail Abramovich, a prominent European Marxist and anti-Stalinist, disappeared in Barcelona. His disappearance remains a mystery. After discussing the political nature and activities of the German Leninist organization Neu Beginnen, to which Rein belonged, Chapter 9 examines Rein’s political activities and objectives prior to his arrival in Spain and efforts by his father to find out what happened to his son. Toward that end, he met with various Spanish officials but remained convinced that Communists or Soviet agents were responsible. He used his influence in various Marxist organizations to pressure the Spanish Republican government but to no avail.</jats:p>
