Abstract
Judaism: A Very Short Introduction examines how Judaism evolves from biblical foundations into a diverse religious tradition and enduring way of life. It surveys sects and divisions, traces responses to modernity, and explains how the secular state of Israel negotiates religion and government. This VSI explores Judaism as religion and practice through festivals, prayers, customs, and communal life across history and geography. It analyses contemporary debates on feminism, gender, and marriage, and situates these within Judaism’s long and complex relations with other religions. Finally, it presents Judaism in the 21st century as a dynamic, contested, historically grounded, and intellectually resilient tradition.
