<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>Chapter 1 introduces the third edition of this book, previewing key substantive updates over the past seven years, including shifts in the scale, structure, and strategic landscape of consolidated federal and state proceedings; increased attention to over-the-counter products; jurisdictional issues following Mallory v. Norfolk Southern Railway; significant developments in federal preemption doctrine after Merck v. Albrecht; clarification of Rule 702’s gatekeeping function through recent amendments and case law; procedural advances, including the introduction of Federal Rule 16.1 for multidistrict litigation; and the growing role of technology and artificial intelligence (AI) across all phases of pharmaceutical and medical device product liability litigation practice.</jats:p>
