Abstract

Abstract
This book focuses on the role and prophecy of Huldah, one of only five female prophets identified as a naviah in the Hebrew Bible. Huldah has unique accomplishments as depicted in the narrative of 2 Kings 22. Huldah contributes to the development of canon as the first person who authenticates before an official delegation the sacredness of a previously written text, which becomes authoritative scripture for the community. Her oracles result in extensive religious reform as conducted by King Josiah. Moreover, Huldah utters nuanced prophecy concerning the destiny of Judah’s monarch. In examining Huldah’s prophetic utterances, this study employs an innovative approach of peripherality which is derived from socio-spatial theory. Attention will be given to how Huldah’s prophecy has been shaped by her peripheral locus, as a prophet, a woman, a wife, and a resident of Mishneh, located outside the central royal and priestly power complex. This monograph aims to fill a lacuna in critical studies by accentuating the significance and impact of Huldah’s prophecy and revaluing her legacy.
