Work and Health

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>The interplay between work and health has long been recognized through almost a century of work. In developing this volume, the editors hoped to summarize the current literature on the interplay between work and health. They took as a starting point that the relationships between work and health are complex and bidirectional. Moreover, they drew on the WHO definition of health to consider both the positive and negative relationships between work and both physical and mental health. Throughout, the chapter authors advance the argument that health is an organizational issue—organizations benefit by addressing health issues and, correspondingly, incur the costs of ignoring such issues. This book suggests that organizations have both the incentive and the obligation to address issues of employee health.</jats:p>
