Abstract

Abstract
Teaching Qualitative Research in Public Health is an instructional resource to support educators who teach in public health programs and schools. Qualitative methods and analysis are now foundational competencies for public health training and practice, as defined by the Council on Education for Public Health (2016). This book targets both faculty who are preparing to teach qualitative methods for the first time and seasoned veteran teachers who are updating their pedagogical approaches. It offers practical, creative ideas for designing introductory and advanced qualitative courses and addressing the diverse learning goals of public health students. This book is organized into nine chapters that explore and explain how to teach core topics related to conducting qualitative research in the applied field of public health. Topics include how to teach theory as it relates to methods, qualitative study design, ethics and rigor, qualitative methods and analytic approaches, and effective writing and dissemination of qualitative findings. The book also provides an overview of assessment strategies with real-world examples. Each chapter includes materials that readers can use directly in their own courses or adapt to develop their own, unique approach.
