Abstract
Abstract
This bold new approach to horror and the Bible argues that horror can be found beyond the monsters of the text, in the way that many biblical passages try to make their characters (and their readers) feel. Through these feelings of terror, the text works to introduce ideas that would be rejected if they were presented as rational concepts. Instead, horror works to bring the reader closer to unthinkable ideas, ideas which are often at the foundation of how humanity understands the universe and its place within it. This framework views horror as making an important contribution to the biblical text’s pedagogical approach.
