Abstract
In 2010, the national cancer survivorship initiative outlined five key areas to help improve care and support for those living with and beyond cancer (LWBC): support from diagnosis, promote recovery, sustain recovery, manage the consequences of cancer and treatments and support people with active and advanced disease. This chapter presents patient‐centred dietetic delivery in each of these phases. LWBC covers a wide variety of circumstances, including people at diagnosis, during and post‐treatment, and those with recurrence, resulting in differing nutritional needs. The chapter looks at growing evidence around prehabilitation and rehabilitation from the nutritional perspective, whilst looking at the role of the dietitian. Managing the consequences of cancer, treatment and other long‐term comorbidities is required to improve health and quality of life. Increasing numbers of people are living with cancer due to advances in treatments, earlier screening and diagnosis.
