Abstract
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disorder characterised by the destruction of insulin‐producing pancreatic beta cells, resulting in absolute insulin deficiency. This condition requires lifelong insulin therapy for glycaemic control. The dietitian's role in managing T1D is central within the multidisciplinary team, encompassing personalised dietary advice, glycaemic management and the integration of diabetes technologies like continuous glucose monitoring, insulin pumps and hybrid closed‐loop systems. Regular assessment of anthropometry, biochemical markers, dietary intake and lifestyle factors is fundamental in T1D management. This chapter lists specify the components of a thorough dietary assessment for adults living with T1D. It provides an overview of commonly used basal insulins for T1D, with their onset, peak and duration. By adapting care to the specific context, dietitians can support safe and effective diabetes management, reduce the risk of complications and ensure adherence to therapeutic goals.
